Data and Analysis
The APF has developed in-house a software system to manage its mouse data and animal husbandry. This system, named Musterer, is a configurable animal management system that enables the tracking and management of hundreds of thousands of animals from birth to death. Musterer maintains and manages all data relating to strains, individual mice including current breeding and genotype data, pathology and test results, strain history, images/movies.
Musterer provides the benefits of electronic records management, access to and analysis of experimental data, regulatory compliance, and inventory cost control.
Musterer is deployed as a web application, and is implemented using Perl and PostgreSQL. It runs on Unix-based systems, such as Linux and Mac OS X, and uses the Apache web server.
