Genotyping and Mapping
The APF genotyping resource provides accurate, high-throughput genotyping of mice housed within the facility. Expert staff design new project specific primers with more than 80 genotyping assays currently available. Mouse tissues are collected and processed by highly trained APF staff offering clients an efficient, trouble-free service. Genotyping results can be easily accessed through the APF database, Musterer.
The APF provides space, equipment and expertise to run small or large projects to map the chromosomal location and aid in identification of the affected gene of new gene variant mouse strains obtained from the ENU gene-variant Libraries or from the Phenome Bank. The APF offers a number of technologies and resources for mapping. These include Microsatellite and Amplifluor (SNP) proximal/distal and genome wide (10-20Mb) panels for various mapping crosses.
The APF offers a unique service:
- Samples and DNA collected and prepared in house to ensure a complete set of accurate results are produced and recorded.
- Expert advice on mapping strategies with the option to pool samples to significantly reduce costs.
- Use of new Amplifluor fluorescent SNP based assay.
- Analysis and interpretation of mapping data.
- New marker primer design to improve the ability to determine chromosomal linkage and aid in the fine mapping process.
- Experienced advice on sequencing methodologies.
- Advice and training on the use of existing databases to identify and design new markers, scan the genome for features of interest, search for candidate genes within an interval and design primers for sequencing.
- Troubleshooting of difficult assays.
- A focus on keeping in touch with new technologies and improving and developing existing methodologies.
